Providence Perfume
All-natural botanical perfumery from Providence, Rhode Island.
Providence Perfume Co. was founded in 2009 by Charna Ethier in Providence, Rhode Island. Ethier grew up on New England farmland with parents she describes as devoted naturalists, and that sensory education — wildflowers, soil, cut grass, rain — shaped her conviction that fragrance should be made from real plants rather than synthetics. After years inside large beauty companies, she left to build an all-natural perfumery. Every composition is blended by hand in small batches using essential oils, absolutes, and botanical extracts in a pure alcohol base. The palette draws on global plant materials while grounding itself in a distinctly American Northeast character: mossy greens, river water, evergreens, and flowers that actually grow in New England gardens. Ethier was named Natural Perfumer of the Year in 2012 and has received Fifi award nominations. The studio now operates from an artists' mill in Pawtucket, where Ethier also teaches natural perfumery. Providence Perfume suits wearers committed to natural materials — those who read ingredient lists and want the transparency that synthetic-free production provides, and who find the constraints of natural perfumery a creative strength rather than a limitation.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
