Prudence
Numbered fragrances from rural Périgord.
Prudence Paris is a small family-owned perfume house founded in 2005 by Prudence Kilgour, an Australian-born creative whose career in design and fashion took her from New York and London to Hong Kong before settling on a farm in Beaumont-du-Périgord. A chance encounter in 2003 with celebrated Parisian florist Henri Moulie awakened her to the art of scent, leading her to studies in Grasse and the creation of her first eau de parfum, simply named Prudence, the same year. The house is distinguished by a numbered collection structure — each fragrance assigned a sequence — and by the intimate involvement of Kilgour's husband, who creates the brand's artwork. Compositions tend toward the literary and the gardened: floral at their heart, shaped by memory rather than trend, with the unhurried quality of something grown rather than manufactured. The atelier eventually opened a Paris studio while keeping its roots firmly in the medieval bastide countryside of southwest France, a tension between urbane elegance and rural calm that gives the fragrances their particular register.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
