Refan
Fine Bulgarian fragrance, refillable and accessible.
Refan was founded in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 1991 by Stefan Popov, who named the company by combining syllables from his own name and his wife Reni's — a personal origin that still shapes the family-run character of the business. Beginning as an importer of fragrances and cosmetics, Refan gradually built its own production capabilities and launched a franchise retail model that has since expanded to more than 400 shops across four continents. The house specialises in alcohol-based and oil-based perfumes that offer accessible interpretations of internationally recognised fragrance profiles, positioned as value alternatives to established designer names. Its own-label ranges are supplemented by personalised refill stations in boutique locations, allowing customers to decant chosen scents into reusable bottles — a concept that was unusual in the mass-market segment when Refan introduced it. Today, Stefan Popov's son Anguel leads the group, having modernised operations and accelerated international expansion. Refan maintains manufacturing in Bulgaria, where it draws on the country's historic expertise in rose cultivation and essential oil production. The Plovdiv headquarters oversees product development for the full catalogue of fragrances, cosmetics, bath products, and natural soaps sold under the Refan name.
