Rogue Perfumery
Pre-IFRA classicism made one batch at a time.
Rogue Perfumery was founded in 2017 by self-taught American perfumer Manuel Cross as a deliberate act of resistance against the systematic erosion of classic fragrance materials by IFRA regulations and EU restrictions. Cross composes every scent himself in small batches, freely employing nitromusks, oakmoss, and other materials that mainstream houses can no longer use without restriction, reconstructing entire genres — especially vintage chypres, oakmoss-heavy fougères, and tobacco orientals — that have largely disappeared from commercial perfumery. Each release is a labor of precision: formulas are tested extensively before production, and batch sizes remain limited to preserve quality. The house operates entirely without compromise, prioritising olfactory fidelity to pre-regulatory classicism over commercial safety or broad appeal, and has cultivated a devoted following among fragrance enthusiasts who lament the reformulation of beloved mid-century compositions.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
