Rosendo Mateu - Olfactive Expressions
Rosendo Mateu - Olfactive Expressions is the personal label of Spanish master perfumer Rosendo Mateu, launched in 2015 after four decades of work for major fragrance companies. Mateu began his career at age fifteen at Puig in Barcelona, later studying in Grasse at the Roure School (now Givaudan) and working in Geneva with Firmenich's Arturo Jordi Pey and in Paris with IFF's Max Gavary. In 2010 he was formally designated a Master Perfumer. The collection was developed over two years in collaboration with his son Joan Mateu and introduced at the end of 2015 with four founding fragrances. Subsequent releases have drawn on the same vocabulary of Spanish raw materials and Mediterranean luminosity, often using the simple numbered naming convention - 4 Saffron Oud Vanilla, 5 Floral Musk, and so on - that keeps focus on the olfactive content rather than marketing narrative. Rosendo Mateu passed away after the brand's launch, and the house continues under the stewardship of his family and collaborator Marc Daniel Heimgartner. Distribution is international, through niche fragrance retailers and the brand's own website, with prices in the upper niche tier reflecting the quality of raw materials.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
