Sage Machado founded The Sage Lifestyle in Santa Barbara in 1992, beginning with handmade gemstone jewellery and adding perfume oils in 1997. Each scent in the line is paired with a corresponding stone — onyx, tourmaline, pearl, moonstone — and presented in a small roller bottle topped with the gemstone itself. The house works exclusively in pure perfume oil rather than alcohol-based eau de parfum, on the reasoning that oil sits closer to the skin and reads as more intimate.
