Six Scents
Designers and perfumers, one fragrance at a time.
Six Scents was launched in 2008 by Joseph Quartana, the New York retailer behind the avant-garde boutique Seven, as a collaborative project pairing emerging fashion designers with established perfumers. Each numbered series invited six designers — including names like Bernhard Willhelm, Cosmic Wonder, Gareth Pugh, Mary Katrantzou and Rad Hourani — to develop a fragrance with a Givaudan or other industry nose, framing perfume as a conceptual extension of fashion practice. Four limited-edition series produced twenty-seven releases between 2008 and roughly 2012, with proceeds tied to charitable causes. The project sat at the intersection of indie perfumery and runway culture, and although Quartana later evolved the venture into Parfums Quartana, the original Six Scents catalogue remains a reference point for designer-perfumer collaborations of its era.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
