Susanne Lang
A wardrobe of scents, crafted for layering.
Susanne Lang launched her eponymous Toronto-based fragrance house in 2002, channelling a lifelong passion born from years of world travel that brought her into contact with the aromatics of India, Bali, France, and Australia. The collection was conceived from the outset as a wardrobe rather than a single signature: six distinct scents designed to be worn alone or layered in any combination, allowing the wearer to compose something entirely their own. Bottling the philosophy that perfume should be personal rather than prescriptive, Lang treats each fragrance as a building block — cedarwood here, a pear note there, vetiver underfoot — so the final scent shifts with skin chemistry and mood. The Layering Wardrobe kit, which contains one of each of the six original scents, became a calling card that earned shelf space at Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York, and Printemps Paris. A quietly individualist house in a market that rewards conformity.
