The Strange South
Stories in a bottle.
The Strange South is a hand-blended indie fragrance house that opened in August 2017 in Caledonia, Mississippi, drawing inspiration from the folklore, ghost stories, and whispered secrets that thrive in cypress swamps and sun-bleached pine forests. Fragrance names are drawn from actual epitaphs carved on grave headstones across the American South, grounding each scent in a specific place and a half-remembered life. All products are made in small batches without alcohol, parabens, or phthalates, and tested exclusively on willing humans. The house has expanded from perfumery into hand and body lotions and offers custom fragrance commissions. Its aesthetic sits firmly in Southern Gothic — dark Americana, slow heat, the particular humidity of a story that refuses to stay buried — making it one of the more atmospheric and regionally specific presences in American indie perfumery.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
