By the editors · 2 min readA clean-cut fresh fougère from Abercrombie & Fitch, First Instinct Blue updates the classic with contemporary molecular clarity. Apple, cardamom, and bergamot open with a slightly sweet, spiced freshness — the cardamom adding just enough complexity to distinguish the opening from a generic citrus burst. Lavender and rosemary carry the heart: herbal and cool, with the lavender soft rather than soapy, the rosemary sharpening the edges without overdoing it.
Tonka bean, sandalwood, and amber build a warm, smooth drydown — the tonka providing a vanilla-adjacent sweetness, the sandalwood adding depth, the amber extending the whole composition gently. A well-balanced everyday masculine: nothing about it surprises, but the proportions are correct and the materials are adequate for the price point.
