By the editors · 2 min readThe opening is tart and shadowed—black currant with a mineral edge, like cold fruit pressed against stone. There's an almost marine quality to the sharpness, though nothing aquatic in the usual sense. This is depth suggested by darkness rather than blue transparency.
As it develops, the heart grows increasingly strange and layered. Ginger and black pepper bring heat, while cumin adds a feral, skin-like warmth that some will find challenging. Jasmine and ylang-ylang swim beneath this spice, their richness submerged rather than soaring. The effect is claustrophobic in an intentional way—perfume as descent rather than flight.
The base settles into mossy, resinous territory where incense smoke mingles with vetiver's earthy bite and oakmoss's forest floor dampness. This is BeauFort's gothic sensibility in full display: atmospheric, unapologetically dense, and willing to make the wearer work for its rewards. Best suited to those who prefer their fragrances shadowed and complex.
