By the editors · 2 min readA fragment from Byredo's more shadowed registers. Saffron opens warm and spiced before black currant introduces a tart, jammy dark-fruit quality; together they form an unusual pairing that Ben Gorham resolves in the heart with incense's smoky resinous depth alongside rose — a classical combination handled with the house's characteristic restraint. Ambrette in the base provides an earthy-musky quality with a distinctive floral-woody edge; patchouli adds dark depth. Six notes, each earning its place. Reine de Nuit is best understood as a nocturnal companion piece to Byredo's lighter offerings — the fragrance to reach for when the occasion calls for something quieter and more interior.
