Byredo
Byredo was founded in Stockholm in 2006 by Ben Gorham, a Canadian-Swedish former basketball player with no formal training in perfumery. The house's earliest releases — Green, Chembur, Pulp — were composed in collaboration with Olivia Giacobetti and Jérôme Epinette, the latter of whom has signed most of the catalogue since. Byredo's visual identity (uniform black-and-white labels, Scandinavian minimalism, a refusal of conventional perfume-counter cues) became as influential as the fragrances themselves, and Gypsy Water, Bal d'Afrique and Mojave Ghost are now standard reference points for the 2010s niche aesthetic. Manzanita Capital backed the house through its growth phase before Puig acquired a majority stake in 2022.

DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
