Rouge Chaotique
Rouge Chaotique is the first oud-gourmand from Byredo's Night Veils line, and the brief is in the name: maximalist, off-balance, sweet and dark at once.

By the editors · 2 min readRouge Chaotique is the first oud-gourmand from Byredo's Night Veils line, and the brief is in the name: maximalist, off-balance, sweet and dark at once. Saffron and cassis lead, leather-adjacent and tart, with bergamot and lemon keeping the opening from collapsing into syrup.
The heart is plum and praline — caramelized, slightly burnt — over a curl of oak. The base is where it commits: agarwood, papyrus and patchouli, the oud syrupy rather than medicinal, the patchouli warm. It wears like a dessert that has been pulled from a wood fire. Heavy, demanding, best in cold weather and small doses.
