Eau de Cartier Essence de Bois
Essence de Bois is a study in how to feature oud without centering an oud fragrance.
The scent fingerprint
Weighted by intensity across 14 accords.
Every perfume in Sillage is represented as a distribution across canonical accord slugs — a lingua franca for scent. Two fragrances with overlapping fingerprints are scent-twins, even if they share no literal note.

By the editors · 2 min readEssence de Bois is a study in how to feature oud without centering an oud fragrance. The top notes — violet leaf, yuzu, bergamot — open bracingly green and citric, establishing a vegetal freshness before the material underneath begins to assert itself. Lavender and violet at the heart act as transitional foliage, holding the green opening in place.
Then oud arrives: handled cleanly, resisting the animalic overstatement common in oud-focused compositions. Ambergris and musk settle everything into close proximity with skin. The effect is less Middle Eastern oud house, more European interpretation — austere, considered, deliberate.
