By the editors · 2 min readThe 2022 Eau de Parfum reformulation of Acqua di Gio trades some of the original's marine brightness for a denser, more resinous presence. The opening still carries that signature aquatic pulse, but it's quickly grounded by lavender and clary sage—herbal rather than soapy, with a slight medicinal edge that feels more apothecary than beach resort.

As it settles, vetiver and patchouli anchor the composition in earthy, almost smoky territory. The ambergris adds a saline warmth that keeps the base from going too dark, though the overall effect is noticeably less transparent than the Eau de Toilette. Where the original felt like summer air over cold water, this version evokes driftwood and sea salt left to dry in the sun.

It's a deliberate shift toward sophistication and weight, likely aimed at those who found the earlier version too fleeting or too young. The aromatic woods dominate by the drydown, leaving only a trace of that iconic freshness behind.
