By the editors · 2 min readTerre d'Hermès Eau Intense Vétiver is Christine Nagel's 2018 recentering of the Hermès earth trilogy around a single ingredient. Bergamot, grapefruit, and lemon open with the familiar brightness of the original before Sichuan pepper and geranium redirect things — the pepper electric and numbing, the geranium adding a green, rosy facet that the original never had.
Vetiver, olibanum, patchouli, and amberwood in the base are the commitment: damp, earthy, smoky, persistent. Where Jean-Claude Ellena's original Terre was a mineral landscape, this one is the soil itself. A focused and uncompromising masculine that wears best in cooler weather when depth earns its keep.
