By the editors · 2 min readBlack Chyp opens with grapefruit and bergamot — a clean, slightly bitter citrus entry. Civet, labdanum, and vanilla emerge at the heart, a dense animalic-resinous accord that shifts the composition abruptly from fresh to dark. The civet adds a raw animalic quality; labdanum contributes amber-like resin; vanilla softens somewhat.
Oakmoss and vetiver anchor the base with a classic chypre-mossy structure — earthy, slightly damp, tobacco-adjacent. The fragrance reads as a deliberate chypre construction: bright citrus top, animalic heart, mossy-earthy base. The contrast between the clean opening and the dark, mossy dry-down is the defining characteristic.
