By the editors · 2 min readMontale's Aoud series operates in reliably dense territory, and Leather is among its more focused entries. Bergamot provides a brief citrus opening that fades quickly, cardamom adds dry spice, saffron its characteristic medicinal-honey depth, and leather sits at the center of it all — neither suede nor fresh hide, but something more worked and animalic. Ambergris in the base gives the composition warmth and diffusion, lifting the leather into something skin-adjacent rather than simply sharp. The five-note framework is spare by Montale's usual standards, but the individual components are chosen with precision. Linear and intentional — for when the goal is quiet seriousness.
