By the editors · 2 min readCrystal Aoud opens with melon, mandarin, and green apple — fruit that reads bright and slightly aqueous rather than candied. The sweetness of melon is a useful counterweight to what follows: oud, teak wood, and patchouli move in at the heart and pull the fragrance into much darker territory. This is a good illustration of the style — sweetness on top, agarwood underneath, and the contrast between the two is the point.
The base is vanilla, saffron's warmth, and white musk — completing a standard Montale oriental arc. The melon note thins significantly after an hour; what remains is largely oud and wood. Longevity and projection run high. Despite the name implying clarity, this is a warm evening fragrance that wears dense.
