Black XS Potion for Him opens with juniper — gin-dry, slightly resinous — then drifts into a heart of cashmere wood and wormwood that reads more bitter-aromatic than sweet.

By the editors · 2 min readBlack XS Potion for Him opens with juniper — gin-dry, slightly resinous — then drifts into a heart of cashmere wood and wormwood that reads more bitter-aromatic than sweet. The wormwood does most of the work, lending an absinthe edge that keeps the composition from settling into another patchouli-vanilla cliché.
The base is the warmer payoff: a rum accord laid over labdanum, with a warm black sandalwood and amber drydown smoothing the bitterness into something skin-close and slightly leathery.
A flanker that tries to push the original Black XS in a more potion-like direction. Performance is moderate at best — three to five hours — but the bitter-boozy character is unusual enough in this lane to be worth the trade.
