By the editors · 2 min readThe Omniscient Mr Thompson plays the part of a butler who knows where every body is buried. Lavender opens with elemi resin and pink pepper — a polished, almost lacquered fougère gesture — that sits very upright before the room shifts.
Orris brings a powdered, slightly cool middle, and the peppers (black, then geranium's metallic edge) keep the formality from turning sweet. There is a quietness in the heart that reads watchful, not friendly.
The base is the trick of the composition: vanilla, sesame, and oak. Sesame gives a savory, faintly toasted seed-skin warmth that pulls the vanilla away from dessert and toward something almost umami. Oak holds the structure dry. Six to eight hours, intimate to moderate sillage. Less Edwardian costume than the rest of the Portraits line — a Portraits character built on tension rather than charm.
