Giovanna Baby
Giovanna Baby is a Brazilian household name in mild, baby-soft cologne — a category Brazilians take seriously enough that adults wear children's scents without irony. The earliest editions appeared in 1974, and the line has expanded steadily since to include eau de cologne, body splash, and lotion. The Classic edition is the best-known: a simple powdery floral built around rose, lavender, jasmine, lily of the valley, and sandalwood, designed to evoke the smell of a freshly bathed infant. Later additions include Blue Boy, with ylang-ylang and quiet woods, and the gourmand Blueberry, layering cherry and blueberry over almond and Madagascar vanilla. Distribution is essentially Brazilian, with overseas reach through diaspora grocers and import shops. The house sits firmly in the mass tier — inexpensive, ubiquitous in pharmacies — and is bound up with national childhood memory more than with any particular fashion.
