Kemi / Al Kimiya
Alchemy between Western and Arabic perfume traditions.
Kemi / Al Kimiya was established in 2014 by Sergio Momo as the ultra-niche division within the Xerjoff group, dedicated to exploring the deep historical connections between Western alchemical practice and Arabic attar and oud traditions. The name Kemi references the ancient Egyptian root of the word alchemy — transmitted through Arabic al-kimiya — situating the house within a long genealogy of material transformation and esoteric knowledge. Momo brings to this project an extensive engagement with Middle Eastern perfume culture, including authentic oud oils, raw natural materials sourced directly from production regions, and compositional methods rooted in traditional Arabic blending. The fragrances are designed for collectors who value cultural depth, historical scholarship, and raw material quality above conventional accessibility. Sold at the ultra-niche tier, Kemi / Al Kimiya operates with intentional scarcity and presupposes a buyer with sophisticated prior knowledge of both Western niche perfumery and the Arabic olfactory tradition. Within the Xerjoff corporate structure it functions as the most intellectually ambitious satellite line, occupying a distinct position even within the rarefied world of Italian ultra-niche perfumery.
