Nishane
Istanbul's first niche perfumery
Nishane is the first niche perfumery founded in Istanbul, established in 2012 by Mert Güzel and Murat Katran after the two met in 2010 over a shared conviction that Turkey deserved a serious place on the international fragrance map. They self-funded the launch and built the house from a single Istanbul atelier. The collection treats Istanbul as raw material: the Karagöz line draws on Ottoman shadow theatre, Hacivat and Afrika Olifant lean into resinous Eastern accords, and Ani celebrates the historic Armenian capital. Ambra Calabria, Hacivat, and Wulong Cha became cult buys before the house broke into wide global distribution. Noses include Jorge Lee, Cécile Zarokian, and Christian Carbonnel. Nishane has grown rapidly since 2018, expanding into the Gulf, Western Europe, and the United States, while staying creatively directed by its two founders in Istanbul.
Releases
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
