By the editors · 2 min readThe top of 34 Boulevard Saint Germain is a controlled riot — cinnamon, clove, cardamom, pink pepper, black currant, and fig leaf arriving simultaneously, spicy and tart and green at once. The effect should be chaotic but Diptyque holds it in a coherent accord, reminiscent of a spice shop across a wet Parisian street. Then the floral heart opens slowly: tuberose creamy and full, iris with its characteristic chalk-and-root quality, violet powdery and soft, rose barely present. Eucalyptus in the base is an odd choice — cool, camphorous — but it lifts the whole construction away from sweetness and gives it a peculiar, astringent dignity. Unisex, distinctive, polarizing.
