Black Vanilla Absolute

A dark, unapologetically sweet vanillic fragrance that leads with rum — not the crisp, citrus-brightened kind, but something closer to sticky molasses and brown sugar.

Every perfume in Sillage is represented as a distribution across canonical accord slugs — a lingua franca for scent. Two fragrances with overlapping fingerprints are scent-twins, even if they share no literal note.

By the editors · 2 min readA dark, unapologetically sweet vanillic fragrance that leads with rum — not the crisp, citrus-brightened kind, but something closer to sticky molasses and brown sugar. The opening has a boozy warmth that feels more dessert bar than cocktail lounge, and it stays there, leaning into richness without much attempt at balance or lightening.

As it develops, the rum recedes slightly but the vanilla remains thick and resinous, with a faintly smoky undercurrent that keeps it from tipping into pure gourmand territory. There's weight here, an almost syrupy density that clings to skin and clothing.

This is for anyone unbothered by sweetness, who wants presence without complexity. It reads as confident and unpretentious — a deliberate indulgence rather than a carefully orchestrated composition. Cold weather only.
