Korean niche perfumery as quiet rebellion.
Borntostandout is a Seoul-based niche house launched in 2022 by Jun Lim, a former finance professional who built the brand as a deliberate departure from the conformity-coded aesthetics of mainstream Korean beauty. The house works with established noses including Olivier Cresp and Florian Gallo, and frames its compositions around unconventional accords — basmati rice, nail polish, banana bread, sour cherry — alongside more familiar woods and musks. Visual identity riffs on Joseon-dynasty porcelain rendered in red and white, and the writing leans into rebellion as a positioning rather than as theatre. Borntostandout secured a Series A round led by Touch Capital with participation from L'Oréal's BOLD fund in 2025, and now distributes in over sixty countries. It is one of the more closely watched recent Korean entries into the international niche market.
