Etro
Faithful to love and beauty.
Etro began in 1968 in Milan as a textile design company founded by Gerolamo "Gimmo" Etro, who built the firm's identity around the paisley pattern after introducing it to the collection in 1981. Fragrance arrived in 1989, well before Etro became a full ready-to-wear house, which makes the perfumery one of the oldest threads in the brand's history. The scent line reads like a continuation of the textile archive: Messe de Minuit, Magot, Shaal-Nur, Patchouly — incense-and-resin compositions and dense Eastern florals that share the maximalist sensibility of an Etro shawl. The house has stayed loyal to its early formulas while refreshing the line with newer releases under in-house and freelance noses. L Catterton acquired a majority stake in 2021, with the Etro family retaining a minority share and continuing to oversee creative direction in Milan.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
