Mendittorosa
Neapolitan artistic perfumery shaped by transformation and the volcano of Stromboli.
Mendittorosa was founded in 2012 by Stefania Squeglia, a former media-industry marketing manager whose creative restlessness drew her first to the island of Stromboli, where a prolonged stay near the active volcano became—in her account—nothing less than a life transformation. Each fragrance in the Mendittorosa catalogue corresponds to an emotional state or philosophical condition that Squeglia had lived through, making the house an unusually personal project: perfume as the visible residue of an interior journey. Formulated in France and packaged entirely in Italy by hand, Mendittorosa's bottles are as carefully considered as the liquids they contain—every element of packaging is handcrafted, embodying what Squeglia calls handmade by Italian passion. Perfumers Anne-Sophie Behaghel and Amélie Bourgeois have contributed compositions, but Squeglia has been explicit that the house is too philosophical and too artisanal to be comfortably labelled merely niche. She prefers the term artistic perfumery, and the work—lauded by critic Luca Turin—bears out the claim. Mendittorosa maintains minimal distribution, preferring authorised stockists who understand its ethos over broad retail reach. The Odori d'Anima collection, whose name translates roughly as soul scents, exemplifies the house's ambition to occupy the territory where fine fragrance meets philosophy, and where every bottle carries the weight of a specific human experience rather than a market brief.
