Valentino
Born in Roma, free and irreverent by design.
Valentino Garavani opened his couture house on Rome's Via Condotti in 1960 after training under Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche in Paris. The 1962 Florence collection established the brand internationally, and the saturated red that became known as Valentino Red was introduced shortly afterwards as the house signature. The fragrance line has run since 1978, when Valentino debuted at Lancôme. Subsequent pillars include the long-running Valentino Donna and Uomo, the Born in Roma collection launched in 2019, and the Voce Viva floral introduced the following year. Compositions span polished florals, gourmand orientals and modern aromatic constructions. Valentino Garavani retired from the couture house in 2008. The brand is owned by the Qatari Mayhoola for Investments fund, and the perfume business currently operates under licence with L'Oréal Luxe, which took over from Procter & Gamble in 2018.
DNA over time
Each column is an era. Each colored band shows that family’s share of accord weight across every perfume the house released in that window. Bigger band = the house leaned harder on that family.
